Registration for group therapy sessions following
the Brain Developmental Blueprint

Body-Brain Connection:

The brain developmental blueprint highlights the interconnectedness between the body and the brain. Physical development and movement patterns influence brain development and function.

Stages of Development:
The blueprint outlines specific stages of brain development, emphasizing the importance of each stage for optimal brain function. Disruptions or delays in these stages can lead to various neurodevelopmental challenges.

Interdependence of Sequential Group Therapy Sessions
and Brain Development

Here's a breakdown of how group therapy sessions work together to stimulate specific brain areas in a sequential way from Level 1 to Level 7, while following the Brain Developmental Blueprint.

1. STAGE 1 Primitive Reflex, Sensory Integration, Motor, Balance, Coordination Therapy:
  • Primary Brain Areas: Sensory cortex, parietal lobe
  • Secondary Impact: Prefrontal cortex, cerebellum
  • Rationale: By addressing sensory processing issues, we can improve the brain's ability to organize and interpret sensory information. This, in turn, can positively impact attention, focus, and motor skills.

2. STAGE 2 Sensory Motor Skill Integration with Interactive Metronome:
  • Primary Brain Areas: Motor cortex, cerebellum
  • Secondary Impact: Basal ganglia, prefrontal cortex
  • Rationale: Motor activities, such as gross and fine motor skills, stimulate the motor cortex and cerebellum. This not only improves coordination and balance but also enhances executive functioning, cognitive functions like planning, problem-solving, and attention.

3. STAGE 3 Social Skills and Emotional Regulation, Social Communication Development:
  • Primary Brain Areas: Amygdala, prefrontal cortex
  • Secondary Impact: Temporal lobe, limbic system
  • Rationale: Social interaction and emotional regulation involve complex brain processes. By practicing social skills and learning emotional regulation techniques, children can strengthen neural connections in these areas, leading to improved social competence, social communication and emotional well-being.

4. STAGE 4 Executive Functioning  Cognitive Skills and Speech Development:
  • Primary Brain Areas: Prefrontal cortex, hippocampus
  • Secondary Impact: Parietal lobe, temporal lobe
  • Rationale: Cognitive skills, such as memory, attention, and problem-solving, rely on the coordinated function of multiple brain regions. By engaging in activities that challenge these skills, we can stimulate neural growth and enhance speech and cognitive abilities.

The Interconnected Nature of Brain Development:
  • Cumulative Effect: Each therapy session builds upon the previous one, strengthening neural connections and improving overall brain function.

  • Cascade Effect: Improvements in one area can lead to improvements in other areas. For example, improved sensory processing can lead to better attention, which can then enhance learning and social skills.

  • Holistic Approach: By addressing multiple areas of brain development, we can provide a comprehensive and effective approach to therapy.

By understanding the interconnectedness of these brain areas and the impact of various  brain-based therapy techniques, we can create tailored intervention that optimize outcomes for children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Melillo Method therapy requires specialized knowledge of brain anatomy and function, extensive experience, and specific skills. This complexity contributes to the higher cost
of one-on-one sessions compared to traditional therapies. To make this approach more accessible, a Brain Integration Melillo Method™ certified practitioner and special education teacher has started offering group therapy sessions at a lower cost for families.

Please see the various options of the group interventions in the registration form below.
